U16 sailing squad perform well at the inaugural Feva BSDRA National Finals

06 July 2017

Last Sunday the U16 sailing squad sent 2 teams to Alton Water in Suffolk to represent the school at the inaugural BSDRA (British Schools Dinghy Racing Association) National finals of team-racing in Fevas. The event was held over three days.

The B team (Katja Ruda & Louisa Dixey, Grace Pank & Conall Moffat) came 10th and the A team (Will Pank & Finlay Campbell, Seb Gotto & Thomas Alston) came 3rd out of the 11 teams that were competing. The B team were in contention for the majority of their races and performed with admirable skill. Having reached the semi-finals of the Gold Fleet, the A team were beaten by the narrowest of margins by the eventual winners of the competition. This was particularly galling as we had beaten them in an earlier encounter. However, both teams are to be congratulated on their performance on the water in a national event that brings together the top sailing teams in the under 16 age group from around the country. Will Pank deserves special mention for some remarkable team-racing and boat handling skills that saw him convert many a losing configuration into a match-winning situation.

The squad's next event is the RS Feva World Championships in Holland during the last week of July and we wish them well (Will Pank, the defending champion, is flying back from Thailand, where he is competing in the Optimist World Championships, to join the squad).
