U13 Girls Cricket narrowly miss out at Lady Taverners Regional Finals

28 April 2017

On Tuesday 25th April the U13 Girls Cricket team travelled to Leicester for the Lady Taverners Regional finals. Our first game was against the ever consistent St Ivo's Team. We chose to bat first and although we started a little slow and defensive we managed to post a respectable score of 76-1. As we went out to field a few lapse moments saw St Ivo's quickly creep up on our score, and although we took 4 wickets in the seventh over it just wasn't enough and we finished the game 10 runs down. Our second game was against Wellingborough, we had clearly learnt from our previous game and we started to run confidently with Kate Houldey, Mia Bartram and Jemima Watson all retiring. Our fielding was much improved also and we finally finished the game 93-2 winning by 10 runs. In order to stand a chance of qualifying for the final the girls knew they had to win the last game against The Perse. They went out to bat first once again and posted an incredible score of 99 with Abi Flatt retiring early on, and all batters running at every opportunity. The girls fielded brilliantly taking 7 wickets and only allowing The Perse to score 69. Although this meant we finished joint top of our group with St Ivo's their overall run rate was 13 runs higher than ours and therefore they took the place in the final. The girls should be commended on the way they conducted themselves and played over the course of the tournament.

Players of the day: Mia Bartram for her fantastic wicket keeping and getting four consecutive stumpings in one over, and Jemima Watson for her overall fielding and batting performance.
