Senior end of season hockey tour to Holland

04 May 2017

Over the Easter weekend the school took 2 senior squads to Holland to take part in an International tournament held at WFHC.

Despite not playing together for 4 months the girl’s squad started off the tournament well with 2 wins out of 3. The 2ndday was much tougher with the girls playing 2 teams who play in the top Dutch division but defended valiantly and worked as hard as Mr Sorrell has ever seen. Unfortunately, the level of opposition was simply too good. The final day saw the girls in the 5th– 6thplayoff versus the Ukrainian U18 National team. Despite creating a number of chances we were unable to win meaning we finished in 6thplace. It was an incredible effort and to compete in the playoff against an International team is an incredible experience.

The boys started their first day with 3 wins and were clear favourites to win the tournament from the beginning. The boys carried on their excellent season form and played some great hockey against teams from South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium and Holland. Despite a few close games, the boys went unbeaten and reached the final on Sunday. The final was an absolute master class from the boys and they ran out 10-2 winners including some great individual and team goals including the goal of the tournament from Ben Watson.

Some individual successes from the tour were Ben Watson and Summer Haylock being voted U19 player and goalie of the tournament respectively.

The school has also had some individual hockey success stories recently:

- Norfolk U15 JAC team won all 6 matches in the recent tournament to win the East Region Championship. We had Rachael Phillips, Ellyn Roberts, Sophia Basset and Amelia Barclay all playing.

- Norwich City Hockey Club U12s reached the National finals and Will Farrow, Oliver Millett and Farren Miller were all part of this team.

- 15 Norwich School players have been invited to attend the Regional Performance Centres this year. The Performance Centres are a key part in the England Hockey player pathway with the next step being invited for England selections (futures cup).
