Schwerin Exchange Trip - Easter 2017

03 April 2017

This was the first leg of the inaugural German Exchange with the Ecolea International School in Schwerin.  It was a fascinating location for a German exchange as the school is not only situated in the former GDR town full of historical memories but it is also only 10 years old and all the facilities and teaching styles are very modern.

11 pupils from L5 and M5 took part in the exchange and were hosted by families in Schwerin and the surrounding area from Sunday 26th March - Friday 31st March 2017.  Mrs Hood and Mr Curtis accompanied the group and worked closely with Mirco Fraehmke and Anika Bahls from the Ecolea school.

The pupils enjoyed many joint activities between the German and English pupils which allowed them to get to know each other and speak German, including ceramic painting, bowling, going to lessons, visiting museums and day-trips to local harbour towns Wismar and Warnemuende.  Tours were conducted in German allowing for our pupils to practise their listening skills and towns were explored through the medium of treasure hunts and quizzes which encouraged team work and communication skills.  There was a farewell BBQ at the school on the last evening which the parents and teachers jointly hosted and was an ideal way for pupils to say their thank yous and goodbyes and play some basketball together as a last team activity.

Mrs Hood and Mr Curtis were delighted with the behaviour, politeness and enthusiasm of all of the pupils who took part and we hope that the return leg is equally as successful in June.
