Redecorated GoGo Dragon celebrates diversity in the UK's creative arts world

11 June 2021

The school’s GoGo Dragon is getting a makeover!

The dragon sculpture is from the 2015 Break Charity GoGo Dragon trail, an interactive arts sculpture trail that brought 84 large dragon sculptures and 120 school dragons to the City of Norwich.

The dragon is now being redecorated by talented artist Sophie Duez (U6), to celebrate diversity in the UK’s creative arts world.

Pupils across the school are being asked to reflect on creative arts and acknowledge and celebrate people who are at the forefront of these creative industries for the great impact they have on the world.

In their tutor groups, pupils are being asked:

1. Who stands out to you as an individual in any creative art? How do they stand out and why? Do you know their story; their background?

2. How many different names can you pick out as influential figures in the creative industry within your tutor group?

Following these discussions, each tutor group will nominate two names of British people in the creative arts that either inspire or interest them, or who have had a positive impact. The names will then be collected and added to the dragon to represent the diverse range of talent in the UK in various creative disciplines.

As well as the project to rejuvenate the 2015 Dragon, work is also underway on this year’s charity trail. The 2021 GoGo art trail features 20 individually designed T Rex sculptures which will stomp through the streets of Norwich as a guided route to Norwich Cathedral and Dippy the Diplodocus. The sculptures will be unveiled in Norwich on Monday 12th July and will feature until Saturday 11th September 2021. Keep your eyes peeled for Norwich School’s GoGo T Rex!
