Race from your Place raises £3,500 for Priscilla Bacon Hospice

08 June 2020

Members of Norwich School company ‘Velocitas’, one of the school’s Young Chamber groups, have raised £3,500 for the Priscilla Bacon Hospice charity through the creation of their 5k virtual road race.

Working in collaboration with local running club, Norwich Road Runners, the event saw 400 people take part, each donating £10 to take part in a 5K run from their homes between 13th and 31st May. All runners received a medal, certificate and had the chance to top the leader board!

Participants aged from 5-90 years took part in the run with Alicia Lacey from the Norwich Road Runners securing the top time in the female category with a time of 17:42 and Jacob Öcal topping the male race with a time of 16:44.

Mr Manton said: “The Young Chamber race team, comprising of pupils from the school are delighted with the total raised for the hospice.  We all have a better understanding of the challenges faced by businesses and institutions moving their operations online.”

Abigail Hill in U5 said: "Being part of the project team has been a fantastic opportunity for my peers and I to practice our business skills, working on event organisation, marketing and management and to advance our team work and leadership abilities. I have really enjoyed working with such an enthusiastic and diligent group of peers and I would definitely be keen to plan a similar event in the future."

Well done to all those who entered the race!
