Pupil, Laura-Rose Cooke, claims her second international gymnastics title in a year

22 October 2018

Over the weekend, Laura-Rose Cooke (U6C),  competed for England in the Salamunov Memorial 2018 - an international gymnastics competition in Slovenia.

She was one of six girls split into two teams chosen to represent England, competing against teams from Austria, Croatia, Egypt, Germany, Hungary and Slovenia. On Friday 19 October, the All Around competition took place, with Laura leading England A to the team title. She took the individual All Around Gold title with an impressive score of 50.75. The All Around competition was also the step to qualifying for individual apparatus finals on the Saturday and Sunday. Laura was the only English gymnast to qualify for all four finals: vault, uneven bars, beam and floor. On the Saturday, she added to her medal haul by taking gold on vault and silver on bars. On the Sunday, Laura was last to go as she was the top qualifier . She held her nerve on  the beam to pick up another gold medal and finished on floor with a very strong routine claiming the silver medal.

Laura returned from Slovenia with three individual gold, two silvers and the team trophy, the most decorated gymnast at the competition. It was her second international gymnastics title in the space of a year.

Congratulations on a fantastic achievement.
