For the past rugby season Norwich School pupil Freddie Steward has been a member of the Leicester Tigers Academy. On Sunday 11th March the team were crowned the U18 Academy Grand Final Winners following a 43-21 victory over Gloucester at Allianz Park, the home of European Champions Saracens.
The Grand Final weekend is the culmination of the Academy League season, which has been running since the turn of the year. Freddie started all six of the Tigers’ fixtures. He helped the team to victories in five of their league fixtures and drawing the other, Freddie scored in the home victory over Wasps in February.
This strong season meant that the Tigers qualified from their conference in first place, where they had faced Gloucester, who boasted a similarly impressive record in their conference.
The final proved to be a great game both for the team and for Freddie personally. Freddie scored the opening try and added another in the first half to Tiger’s six try victory.
