Orienteering Club Returns Triumphant from Championships

24 November 2021

The Orienteering Club had one of its best ever days at the British Schools Championships on Sunday 21 November.

Our biggest ever squad of 20 pupils returned with medals in 4 different age-groups. On the Year 7 Boys Course, Rory Evans got the best individual result with 9th place on the 3km course. Miles Alston, William Duncan, George Hunter, Rupert Strike and Roman Paterson also all finished in the top 25 to secure 2nd place in the team competition. This result was matched by the Year 6 boys from the Lower School.

Our other successes came at the other end of the age spectrum. Will Bartram and Luke Fox were sitting 1st and 2nd at one stage in the Year 13 Boys Race. In the end Will finished 2nd, and Luke agonisingly slipped out of the medals by 5 seconds. But they did pick up bronze medals in the team competition. This means Will finishes his School career with an amazing 7 individual and team medals from 6 visits to the nationals.

The big winners of the day were our Year 12 girls team. Over a 6km course, longer than any of them had ever done before, Amy Griffiths finished 3rd, Mary Bowles 4th and Imogen James, running up a year, finished 5th. These results combined to win the Year 12 Girls trophy. They are first girls to win orienteering silverware for Norwich School.
