Old Norvicensians across the world gather to watch 'Global ON Day'

16 July 2020

On Saturday 4th July, Old Norvicensians gathered virtually to watch a live premiere of our 'Global ON Day' on YouTube. ONs were invited to grab a glass of fizz, take a seat, relax and watch the proceedings.

The live premiere included the annual ON Day assembly in the Norwich School Chapel, with messages and prayers from familiar faces. Viewers were then treated to a tour of the school, a great chance for ONs to see what has changed in recent years, followed by greetings from familiar faces around the world, which had been sent in ahead of time, how many did you recognise?

Reflections from Head Master, Steffan Griffiths, a showcase of ON and Norwich School talent from the past year as well as a photo gallery of previous ON Days was also premiered.

In the afternoon, ONs were encouraged to catch up with school friends and to then join a big zoom call with ONs all across the world.

We were touched by the many wishes from ONs following the Global ON Day 2020. Here are just a few that were received:

Ian Neal (Prof) ON 1968-75:

"Thanks so much to you both for organising such a super event, and doing it so well ... without a technical hitch, too.  As you say, it was wonderful to see so much in the morning and to take part, virtually, in such a loving event.  I and my family found it very moving.  The YouTube automatically loaded the Gather 20 videos afterwards ... some proper talent there!  It was all terrific."

Robert Beaumont ON:

"Thanks to your team and you for organising such a good day, the Youtube presentation was excellent and Jan and I enjoyed it very much."

Kevin Marsh ON:

"A big thank you for organising this. It was a great success and you should feel justifiably proud."

Christine Castle, NS former school nurse:

"I watched the live stream this morning and had to contact you and say what a triumph! It was full of variety and very interesting to hear from all the various ON’s and staff. Well done to you and the team."

Anna Stevenson, parent:

"Just watch the whole of ON day and loved every minute. Well done! It was really well delivered and really interesting!"

Ralph Wilson ON 74-83:

"Thanks was tremendous, thank you Rachel and all involved. May it could become an annual event!?

Adam Green ON (59-64):

"I've never been to the ON Day so it's been very good to be able to drop in virtually. Might there be a virtual element to extend the reach of future days as part of this promised 'New Normal' "

Ted Witton ON and former Governor and Friend:

"Tuned in from start to finish – brilliant and well balanced: congratulations to all involved. A shame only about 150 were watching but I guess it will be permanently available now on YouTube. Hope to see you before long."
