Norwich School secure best ever result at the prestigious Itchenor Schools Regatta

30 June 2017

Congratulations to the school's U16 sailing team who had their best performance ever in the 3 day Itchenor Schools Regatta that took place in Chichester Harbour from Sunday to Tuesday this week. Norwich School took four boats on the long journey to compete in the RS Feva class, alongside another 100 boats from various schools, including sailing heavyweights Sevenoaks, Portsmouth Grammar and RGS Guildford.

The whole squad coped superbly with the long journey, the high and low wind speed, the tides, the waves and the competition to post our best results in the school's history. Katja Ruda and Louisa Dixey were 76th, Grace Pank and Sam Briggs were 48th, Seb Gotto and Thomas Alston were 25th.

The jewels in the crown were the irrepressible Will Pank and his talented crew Finlay Campbell who came back from a relatively modest day's racing on Monday to post two first places in a fleet of 104 boats on Tuesday. They finished level on points with a pair from Hayling College overall, but by virtue of better results on the second day were awarded first place by the tightest of margins, a spectacular achievement.

All the crews can now look forward to heading to the Worlds over the summer holidays.
