Norwich School Pupil Colette Maxwell-Preston is made Young Norfolk Laureate

17 July 2019

Colette, a member of the school's Writers' Bloc group, submitted a piece of creative writing to the Young Norfolk Writing Competition 2019. The competition is organised by the National Centre for Writing and is open to pupils aged 11-18.

Seven winners were selected and presented at a workshop and presentation at Dragon Hall, during which Colette found out she had been made Young Norfolk Laureate 2019. The workshop included a performance from Norfolk poet Piers Harrison-Reid, who presented the prizes. Colette will receive creative and professional development opportunities from the National Centre for Writing, the Young Norfolk Arts Trust and Norfolk County Council and will encourage young people across the county to enjoy writing and reading.

Colette also took part in the recent New Writing Festival during Gather 19, and was amongst pupils who performed a Celebration of Creative Writing evening at the United Reformed Church.
