On 5th November Norwich School presented its first Norfolk Children’s Book Day. Ten Norfolk Schools brought pupils from Years 5 and 6 for a morning of book-related talks and activities.
Peter Bunzl, the author of the fabulous Cogheart series – Cogheart, Moonlocket, Skycircus – spoke about his background, his inspiration and his work to date. He also gave away a few details about the latest book in the series Shadowsea which will be published in January 2020. Some pupils learnt the art of comportment by balancing books on their heads – with various levels of success!
Author and illustrator Tony de Saulles held an interactive session with pupils drawing along while Tony demonstrated and spoke about his time illustrating the Horrible Science series as well as his own books BeeBoy – Clash of the Killer Queens, Attack of the Zombees and Curse of the Vampire Mites. He spoke about his passions of beekeeping and illustrating and all of the pupils (and most of their teachers!) produced some excellent illustrations to take home.
M.G. Leonard was the final speaker of the morning, talking about her books Beetleboy, Beetle Queen and The Battle of the Beetles. She told the audience of her precarious journey from a lifelong fear of creepie crawlies to her now evident passion for beetles and bugs – and in the process revealed many fascinating facts about beetles and their importance in our world.
Jarrold Books were in attendance and sold books at a discounted price from all of the authors and pupils had an opportunity to have their books signed.
Norwich School pupils from Lower and Upper 3 enjoyed the same author talks in the afternoon and Peter Bunzl returned the following day to present to the Senior school’s Lower 4.
