Norwich School J14 girls rowing team success

15 May 2018

On Sunday 13th May two members of the Norwich School J14 girls rowing team travelled to Dorney Lake, to race at the Ball Cup (South). The day began with some tough racing in 1x and ended with success in the 2x.

Norwich School pupil Chloe Loveland (L5P) raced first, competing in the J15 category. She raced well, finishing 5th in her heat and unfortunately missing out on a place in the final. Norwich School pupil Milly Foyster (L5N) competed in the J14 category, also coming 5th in her heat and being eliminated from the competition.

The afternoon brought the opportunity to combine forces and race in the 2x. They were drawn in a fast heat and went through to the final in third place in their heat and on time overall, with under a second between them and the second-fastest crew. Their final race began well with a fast start which saw them briefly leading the field. Slowly, however, Barn Elms began to draw away from the rest of the crews, leaving a battle for silver in their wake. The crew put in a commanding push through the middle 250m but were ultimately pushed into the bronze medal position by an impressive wind for the line from Evesham.

A bronze medal for the WJ14 2x was a fantastic end to the day’s racing and a real testament to the hard work the crew has put in over the season. Well done both!
