Norwich School Intermediate Orchestra perform at The Dyers' Schools' Concert

21 June 2017

Last night the Intermediate Orchestra represented Norwich School at the annual Dyers’ Schools’ Concert, held in the beautiful Southwark Cathedral, London. Norwich School was again joined by the three other Dyers sponsored schools: Archbishop Tenison’s School; Boutcher Primary School; and St. Saviour’s and St. Olave’s School.

There was an eclectic programme of music with the opening two numbers, performed by the Combined Schools Orchestra, displaying energy and enthusiasm, which got the concert off to a marvellous start.

Bethan Callow was next on stage for Norwich School, performing a flawless flute solo ‘Cantilena’ by Poulenc. The Combined Schools Choir immediately followed this, conducted by Norwich School Director of Music Richard Allain, performing highly skilled renditions of Mozart and Rutter. Katja Ruda was next on, completing the solo performances by Norwich School on violin. She performed a hugely impressive ‘1st movement (Largo) from Sonata in C Minor’ by Geminiani.

The finale of a wonderful evening of musical entertainment was a Combined School Percussion Ensemble, skilfully conducted by Andrew Weeks who ushered them through one of his own pieces, the rousing and upbeat ‘Samba Batterie’. The concert itself was as always a resounding success, but perhaps the greatest delight was to see the four schools working together in such harmony.
