On Sunday 17th September Esskia (English School Ski Association) held 6 qualifying events around the UK. 14 Pupils from Norwich School competed at the South East event held at Brentwood Park Ski & Snowboard Centre. Norwich School entered 4 teams, two from Lower School (U12 boys and girls) and two senior school team (U14 boys and U19 Mixed).

The teams comprised of:

U12 Boys – Sam Curtis (F1), Sam O’Shea (F3), Tom Irvine (F2)

U12 Girls – India Fox (F2), Florianna Harrod (F2), Mirabelle Harden (F2)

U14 Boys – Rohan Chauhan (U4R), Jonny Wales (U4S), Herbie Hilyer (U4C), Alex Ogden (U4N)

U19 Mixed – Joe Wales (U6S), Duncan Steel (U5V), Jemma Luck (L6S), Alice Palmer (M5C)

The Lower School teams were first to race and all 6 pupils skied well and completed 2 slalom runs.

Next up were the U14 boys who were on great form setting the fast three times on both runs and therefore winning their category by over 5 seconds. The final results showed Alex 1st, Rohan 2nd and Jonny 3rd.

Joe Wales finished 3rd overall and Jemma Luck 3rd in the U19 category but unfortunately mixed teams cannot compete at the finals.

The U14 boys have therefore qualified to represent Norwich School at the National Finals, which will be held at the Norfolk Snowsports Club 7th October. The team have won their age group for the last 3 years in a row so can look ahead to the finals with great confidence.
