Norwich School celebrate dementia awareness with a truly intergenerational day

15 June 2018

The Norwich School community had an excellent day (14th June) raising awareness of dementia, alongside a Norwich based social enterprise Friend in Deed.

The day began with a Cathedral assembly joined by Kelly Lindsay (founder and director of Friend in Deed). Kelly then delivered two Dementia Friends Sessions where 36 pupils, parents and staff became Dementia Friends. These sessions enabled participants to learn more about dementia and how to support people living with the disease.

Following this, the school held a cupcake sale in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society for all to enjoy.

In the afternoon, a group of local care home residents enjoyed a picnic in the Cathedral Cloisters along with pupils from the school, before enjoying a Making Musicians concert in the Cathedral.

Making Musicians is a platform for which talented musicians are given the opportunity to perform to a wide audience over lunch times. Today, two pupils performed from Norwich School; one of whom was Jeffrey Chung, who had earlier been trained as a Dementia Friend.

Beeston Hall school children also got to enjoy the Making Musicians concert as they were at Norwich School for the day as part of a musical workshop.
