Making Musicians New Sounds from Norwich School

30 January 2019

On Saturday 19th January pupils from both Norwich School and beyond gathered in the Chapel for a memorable Making Musicians concert showcasing music and words written by Norwich School pupils.  New Sounds from Norwich School (NSNS) was an eclectic mix of contemporary classical music and contemporary popular music woven together with spoken word to form a continuous performance lasting around one hour.

The spoken word element was mostly chosen from work written by members of Miss Wasserberg’s 'Writers’ Bloc' creative-writing society.  Members of the group were introduced to the concepts behind the musical compositions by the composers themselves, and writers then took inspiration to create spoken word.  The spoken word was performed by Daniel Possener (U5S) and Faye Hilyer-Ziegler (U6C).

Daniel Possener said: 'NSNS was a fantastic event to be a part of. Transcendent of musical genres and artistic disciplines, it allowed me to listen to and perform with people I would never traditionally get to share a stage with. It was great to hear such fantastic musicians, from both in school and out, who played brilliant and challenging student compositions that were both hugely varied, and yet totally complementary, seamlessly interwoven with spoken word’.

Making Musicians is a developmental arts enrichment programme for exceptional musical talent.  Based at Norwich School, singers, instrumentalists and composers both from within the school and the wider community participate in an annual series of workshops, lectures, visits, masterclasses and recitals designed specifically to nurture young musicians.  For further information, contact Mrs Speca, Head of Making Musicians.
