L6 Liechtenstein trip

23 April 2018

L6 Liechtenstein trip: 24 March - 4 April 2018

'At the beginning the Easter holidays members of the Lower 6 German class set off to Liechtenstein accompanied by Mr Croston. The journey passed quickly and before we knew it, the group had landed in Bavaria and we had the Alps in our sights.

Our destination did however get closer, and despite the inevitable ‘meeting the exchange family’ butterflies, the group applied itself to preparing its best German greetings and small talk before we met our partners and their parents in Feldkirch in Austria. Once the formalities were over, we were duly dispatched in the darkness by Mr Croston across the border into Liechtenstein. Once the new day had dawned, we were able to appreciate how beautiful the country was set in the Rhine valley and surrounded by the Alps and we set about exploring Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Austria. We spent a few days in school but there were also lots of excursions for us to get a better flavour of the region.

We took part in a ‘bake-off’ type afternoon when one of the teachers offered a session doing some Easter Zopf baking and egg-dying which we all enjoyed and we also took the chance to prepare and eat fondue up in the mountains in Malbun. The ‘Erlebnis’ card gave us free entry to museums and galleries as well as free days which let us explore Liechtenstein and the mountains as well as crossing the border into Switzerland and Austria where the bravest amongst us tried the legendary ‘Schnipo’ or Schinitzel/Pommes. We also visited the national museum, the art gallery as well as the exhibition of the Liechtenstein crown jewels.

We all arrived home tired but happy and carrying lots of chocolate but most importantly feeling a little more confident about our German and wanting to visit Central Europe again!'
