GB Olympic Gold medal winning Hockey Captain visits Norwich School

17 April 2018

On 16th April, GB Olympic Gold medallist, Kate Richardson-Walsh (OBE), visited Norwich School. Kate captained the history-making women's hockey team at Rio 2016, which collected the first ever GB Olympic gold medal for women’s hockey.

Kate started the day by leading a coaching session at Norwich Lower School, where pupils were given a chance to get her autograph, hold her gold medal and ask any questions.

She then addressed the Norwich School Sport Scholars who had the opportunity to hear her speak about her journey to Rio. She shared tips on setting goals, the importance of team work and having high aspirations.

Norwich School’s Director of Sport, Joe Cowan, said “It was fantastic that our pupils had the opportunity to access one of the greatest Hockey players of the decade.”

In the afternoon, some of the Senior School hockey teams were coached by Kate at the school’s state-of-the-art hockey pitch located at Redmayne Fields. An afternoon that inspired all pupils who took part and one that won’t be forgotten.

Kate’s visit followed on from fellow GB Hockey Team member, Shona McCallin, who inspired pupils at the school in 2016.
