Debating Society hosts Question Time political debate

02 May 2017

Last Wednesday the Debating Society brought together a collection of local speakers for a Question Time style political debate. With the local elections approaching and a snap general election announced in the days running up to the debate this was an exciting opportunity for pupils from Norwich School, as well as visitors from Notre Dame and CNS schools, to get involved in a busy period for politics. The speakers present were: Andrew Wiltshire, office manager for Chloe Smith and Conservative spokesman for Norwich South; Councillor Mike Stonard for Labour; Councillor James Wright for the Liberal Democrats; Green Party leader in the Norwich City Council Martin Schmierer; and Councillor Jonathon Childs for UKIP.

Healthy debate amongst the panellists and audience was hosted by Debating Society president Will Tremelling (L6C) with many of the key election issues, both regionally and nationally, being covered. The event was considered a great success as a result and thanks must be made to all those who attended, both audience and panellists, as well as the Great Hospital for providing the venue for the event.
