Dancers perform for Great Hospital Care Home Residents

19 June 2020

Three Upper 6 pupils, Amélie Hitchings, Emily Wallace and Ellie Hayward choreographed and performed a series of dances in a beautiful performance for local care home residents.

Residents at the Great Hospital Care Home, which is located across five sites within the Cathedral Close, enjoyed the dances either from the garden or through their windows.

Emily, who organised the event tells us a little more about the idea:

“Since the cancellation of A-level exams, I have found myself with lots of free time on my hands, and as a result have been keen to help the local community in anyway that I can. When I discovered that the Great Hospital had been in total lock down for 12 weeks, I was shocked by the difficulties that residents would be facing.

Together with the school, we came up with the idea of an outdoor dance performance to boost morale and hopefully spread some joy and positivity. We performed five dances in different locations around the Great Hospital site, giving all residents the opportunity to watch.

It was such a lovely and uplifting experience, as we brought smiles to the residents’ faces and even witnessed a few bobbing along to the music as well! It was a definite success and we would love to return again soon!”
