Cross Country teams retain East Anglian League trophies

13 March 2017

Saturday saw the final race in the East Anglian League and our runners were in a good position to retain four of the six trophies available against runners from Gresham’s, Ipswich and RHS. The final race was held at RHS and the conditions were unusually pleasant, without the typical wind, sleet and mud that the course so often provides.

In the Junior Boys’ race Jago Taylor (L4B) continued to represent the club well and finished in 2nd place. The Inter Boys had already secured the team and individual prizes but cemented their dominance emphatically by taking the top four places once again. Steven Denby (U5N) was 1st, James Price L5C) 2nd, Louis Cann (U5V) 3rd and Jack Heaton (U5B) 4th. This meant that Steven won all 4 of the EAL races this season and thus secured Intermediate Boys Champion. The team trophy was also secured with good runs by Zach Taylor (L5B) coming 7th and Charlie Austin (U5P) in 8th.

In the Senior Boys’ competition, our runners had not been quite as dominant but the team were on course to retain the trophy and Benedict Smith (U6E) was very much in the running for the individual prize if he could win the race. Benedict lead strongly from the start, managed to pull away from his competitors and after an impressive run came home in 1st place. Alex Hunt (U6N) gave an equally impressive performance to come 2nd and the team was complete with captain Sam Nicholls (U6N) in 4th, Jakob Marshall (U6B) in 7th, George Clements (L6V) in 8th and Charlie Watts (U6P) in 12th. This was sufficient for the Seniors to secure the team and individual prizes as the Inters had done.

Well done to all those runners who have represented the school so well this season and congratulations to those whose hard work in training secured the trophies for the school.
