Chapel Choir sing at the annual Dyers' Service

12 October 2018

On Wednesday 10th October, thirty two members of the school's Chapel Choir travelled to London to sing for the annual Dyers' Service at St James Garlickhythe in the City of London.

Angus Muphy-Lennox (U5V) played the organ before the service. The choir sang O Thou The Central Orb by Charles Wood, Brahms exquisite Geistlicheslied. The blessing was Rutter's The Lord Bless You And Keep You. The choir were treated to a fine lunch at Innholders Hall.

An unexpected highlight of the day happened when the choir stopped to visit the church of St Stephen Walbrook on their walk back to the tube. This Wren masterpiece (Wren's first domed church) is famous for many reasons. It contains an altar by Henry Moore, and it is where Chad Varah, at one time vicar of the church, started the organisation that grew to be The Samaritans. The choir were allowed to sing in this beautiful space, and other visitors were treated to an impromptu performance of the Rutter blessing.
