Boys U15 cricket team crowned Norfolk Twenty/20 Cup winners

14 June 2017

On a brilliant day for cricket at Norwich School, and the county of Norfolk, the Norwich School Boys U15 team were crowned Norfolk Twenty/20 Cup winners in the county round of the National Cup at Redmayne.

The day began with the official launch of the Norwich School and Sussex Cricket Academy, which included the U15 side having their warm-up taken by Sussex Academy Cricket Director Carl Hopkinson with the help of Vice Captain Ben Brown.

Having won the toss in the first game against Thorpe, and choosing to bat, the team came out strongly and put together a massive 206 for 4 off their 20 overs. George Harrad scored 41 off 32 balls, Zach Taylor 42 off 33 and Harry Williams starring with a massive 77 off 43. Thorpe were under huge pressure from the first ball with the total they faced and with some composed bowling, including George Harrad (3/7) and Sam Grisewood (3/20), Thorpe were bowled out for 68 in the 19th over. Norwich School therefore won by 138 runs.

Captain Dan Hastings again won the toss in the final, which was played against Litcham who had overcome Greshams in their own semi-final, and chose to bat. The batsmen found it far tougher against some disciplined Litcham bowling but were able to post a promising 153 for 8. Harry Williams again top scored (44 off 28) and was ably supported by Will Hollis (20 off 19), George Harrad (18 off 11) and Jake Mermagen (17 off 12). Litcham were immediately on the back foot as Sam Grisewood (1/12) struck with the second ball of the innings and never really got going with (Dan Hastings, 2/17) restricting them to finish 74-7 for their 20 overs. This resulted in a Norwich School win by 79 runs, taking the county title.

The Under 15 team can now look ahead to their upcoming regional round of the National Twenty/20 Cup, as well as a three day festival against Cheltenham College, Trent College and St. Peters, York.

The day ended with Sussex confirming that two members of the school have been invited down to Sussex over the summer holidays as the Cricket Academy and partnership with Sussex begins in earnest.
