Bedford Autumn Head - Boat Club

11 October 2017

Last Sunday saw the seniors and Upper 5 members of the boat club race on the River Great Ouse in Bedford. The 2000m stretch was bathed in Autumn sunshine and the water conditions were fabulous for fast racing in what is a great early season test against the local Bedford schools and clubs.

Every member got to race at least twice, allowing our rowers to get to grips with the tricky steering through the many bridges and bends.

A really positive start to the year showed the strength in the Upper 5 squad with wins in the coxed and coxless quad events over Bedford School and wins in the J16 coxed four event over Bedford Modern School, and Mattie Tremelling totally dominating the J16 single event taking the win from 30 other competitors.

The girls squad is really starting to find confidence in competing and despite rowing in boys equipment showed real signs of technical progress.  Anna Herrmann took a win in her single scull, beating girls from Putney High School, Bedford Modern and Guildford.

The senior boys four showed tremendous form in the coxed four event posting a rapid time and winning the event by a significant margin. The coxless pair of Oli Udy and Harry Hook snatched their win in a huge show of power and determination, in the last race of the day.  We look forward to the seniors racing in London in the prestigious pairs head of the river on Saturday.
