A candlelit Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in Norwich Cathedral

15 December 2017

Our annual candlelit Christmas Carol service 'A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols' took place on Sunday 10th December in Norwich Cathedral.

The congregation listened to the Norwich Cathedral Choristers, the Norwich School Junior Choir and the Norwich School Chapel Choir throughout the service. The Chapel Choir sang Lullay My Liking, Nativity Carol, The Swallow and the Bells, What Sweeter Music and Gaudete with Junior Choir joining the Chapel Choir for Gaudete. The Boy Choristers sang Procession, Wolcum Yole.

The congregation was full of family, friends, teachers, current pupils of the school and ON's - as well as members of the community. The carols which the congregation joined in with were: Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence, Of The Father's Heart Begotten, O Little Town of Bethlehem, God Rest You Merry Gentlemen, It Came Upon the Midnight Clear, O Come All Ye Faithful and Hark the Herald Angels Sing.

After the service organist Jonathan Stamp played In Dulci Jubilo BVW 729 by J.S. Bach. The retiring collection this year was taken for the St Martin's Housing Trust, The Matthew Project and Norwich Open Christmas.

Mulled wine and mince pies were served in the Refectory after the service. A member of the congregation let us know that 'It was a beautiful evening' and that they always think of the service as ' ...the start of Christmas.'
