Wednesday 7 September saw the launch of the Hostry Festival 2022. As a proud sponsor of the festival, Norwich School is hosting a number of events including Paint out Artist in Profile in the Crypt and the Kanneh-Mason Classical Gala Concert in the Blake Studio. Read on to find out more about the event and the festival that will run from 21 October to 6 November.

Norwich School pupils took to the stage at Norwich Playhouse on 6th February. The evening was celebrating singers and songwriters at the annual school event 'Unplugged'.

Norwich School’s Spiral Drama group, last night put on a performance of Téleios Thesmós - a production written and created by the pupils themselves.

34 fourth form pupils took part in 'Play in a Day' on Wednesday 5th February in the Blake Studio.

The first Making Musician concert of 2020 took place on Thursday 16th January in the South Transept of Norwich Cathedral. Making Musicians is a developmental arts enrichment programme for exceptional musical talent.

The Junior Dance Festival showcased a fantastic range of dance from pupils at Norwich School. The performances took place on Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th December 2019 in the school's own Blake Studio.

Norwich School has again been placed above all other independent schools in Norfolk and Suffolk in the annual Parent Power Schools Guide, published by The Sunday Times at the weekend. The guide lists the highest-achieving secondary schools in the UK and is particularly respected because it combines performance at both GCSE and A Level. It also compares performance from year to year to give an indication of consistency over time and it incorporates remarks to iron out anomalies from results day.

The Sketch for Survival 2019 Auction has started!

Sketch for Survival is an annual exhibition and sale of wildlife art in aid of conservation. The collection comprises sketches, studio artworks, illustrations and cartoons, all depicting endangered wildlife from around the world.

National Poetry Day (3rd October 2019) was celebrated at Norwich School with a  Poetry Workshop for Lower Five pupils with performance poet Matt Windle, followed by a poetry slam competition, in the Undercroft Library, using the National Poetry Day theme of 'Truth' as a starting point.

The House Shout at St Andrew's Hall brought an uplifting end to the school's annual House Music Festival. 

Throughout the two day festival, musicians performed a variety of pieces, eager to collect points for their respective houses. The Principal Adjudicator this year was Thomas Hewitt Jones, an award-winning composer of contemporary classical and commercial music. Winner of the 2003 BBC Young Composer Competition, his music has been published by Boosey & Hawkes among many others.

On Monday 17th June, musicians from throughout the senior school gathered in the Chapel to take part in the annual Deveson Music Prize. The competition is for instrumentalists and singers and there were some outstanding performances, with pupils performing a wide variety of pieces.

The guest adjudicator was Stacey Kurtz Campkin, who has worked in schools and The Royal Opera House in roles which focussed on developing music in the community.  Her current role is Head of Aldeburgh Young Musicians.

Norwich School pupils Bethan Callow (flute) and Arjuna Puvanachandra (trombone) performed in the South Transept of Norwich Cathedral as part of the Making Musicians developmental arts enrichment programme last week.

The Norwich School Dance Show took place at Epic Studios, 21st and 22nd March 2019. 

The level of commitment, talent and creativity of all pupils involved was impressive. With only a few weeks of rehearsal time, all pupils committed to the process and approached rehearsals with enthusiasm and drive. Many of the pieces from the evening were choreographed and organised by the pupils themselves.

On Saturday 16th March, Friends of Norwich School held their annual fundraiser 'Jazz Night' at Epic Studios, Norwich, where the Norwich School community was brought together for a night of incredible music, delicious food and dancing.

Many of our current Upper Sixth are being offered places at a range of top universities. It is exciting to see the different career paths that they have chosen, both in terms of courses and locations around the world, including the USA, Hong Kong and Holland.

Two Norwich School pupils have been shortlisted for the Norfolk Youth Awards 2019, organised by city centre youth charity, OPEN Youth Trust (OPEN). These awards highlight young people’s astonishing achievements and to give them the recognition and encouragement they deserve. This is the second year that OPEN has organised these awards.

Following a recent audition on her cello, Colette Maxwell-Preston L4P has gained a place in the Under 12s National Children’s Orchestras of Great Britain.

Today's Making Musicians recital was given by Norwich School pupil James Thistlewood (Trombone) and Esther Skipp (cello) in Norwich Cathedral.

Artist Heather Nicholas is currently exhibiting her work, New Directions, in the School Crypt Gallery. All proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to the new Priscilla Bacon Hospice.

Norwich School pupil, Billy White, has been shortlisted for the Norfolk Youth Awards 2019 in the Arts category. The award ‘recognises outstanding achievement in an artistic field’ and the winners will be announced at a ceremony on 24th April at the Open, Norwich.
