1st XI hockey have a positive start to the season

06 September 2017

The girls hockey 1st XI showed incredible commitment over the summer with a number of players coming in for weekly S&C sessions. In the final week of the holiday, the team then stepped it up a gear with two days of training at Redmayne. Following this, the team visited Cambridge for a day of punting, shopping and dinner. The final day of our pre season involved taking part in the Rugby School preseason tournament.

We started off well scoring 8 goals in our first 2 games. A final pool game vs a well oiled Cheltenham saw us lose 1-0 despite creating a number of good chances. We then entered the Trophy where we played all the other runners up of the groups. We comfortably won our next 3 games and overall we scored a total of 24 goals resulting in us winning the Trophy tournament. Sophia Basset should be given a mention for putting in such a positive performance despite still being a M5 student. Her 4 goals and 4 assists showed that she had a big impact. Abbie Ingham was the pick of the goal scorers with 9 in total. Anna Tighe won the player of the tournament for her aggressive pressing and when Anna was on the pitch, the intensity of our game greatly improved. Well done to all.

Mr Sorrell is incredibly excited to see how this team progresses as we are showing so much potential in our play and such a big desire to be the best we can be.
