Mr Robbins Reflects on his PGCE at UEA and Starting Work at Norwich School

Norwich School is delighted to partner with the University of East Anglia to support teacher training in Norfolk. To celebrate this partnership, we caught up with a recent recruit, Mr Robbins, who completed his PGCE at UEA and is now a History teacher with us here:

"Having recently completed my PGCE with UEA, I have thoroughly enjoyed life at Norwich School. Training to become a teacher under such unusual circumstances certainly raised some challenges, but I firmly believe these have allowed me to adapt and improve as a practitioner. I was fortunate enough to receive a wide range of support at UEA and cannot thank them enough for their guidance and making me feel ready to take on my first classes in September.

Despite only joining in September 2021, my time at Norwich School has already allowed me to develop and improve. The House system has allowed me to get stuck into competitions such as House Shout and one of the highlights has been getting to know my tutees and always finding a moment to have a laugh and joke with them. It is great to see so many driven and passionate pupils and setting up a junior history society has been a great way to expand on this passion.

Away from the classroom, the wider Norwich School has been extremely welcoming and supportive during my first few months here. Whether it’s chatting whilst on duty in the playground or over a breaktime coffee, I have quickly felt at home. Finally, I felt empowered and trusted when helping out with admissions days, opening my eyes to wider areas of the school and allowing me to give back to the school.

A term has flown by…it is becoming increasingly clear why there are many staff who have been here for entire careers!"
