M5 Fine Art Pupils on their Recent Trip to Cambridge and Southwold

During the first week of Trinity term, M5 Fine Art pupils enjoyed two inspiring days out, visiting the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge and then Southwold. They have written about their trip here:

Our M5 Fine Art Cambridge Trip – Thursday
We arrived by train to Cambridge and made our way to the Fitzwilliam Museum, where we had a workshop discussion – ‘How to read a painting’ led by one of the museum's experts. We then had the opportunity to look around other areas of the museum, which housed a large range of forms, including ceramics, painting and some beautiful sculptures, were just a few things among the artifacts on display. We enjoyed looking at real paintings, the skill and scale of the work was impressive. The interior of the museum entrance was breathtaking and inspiring too.
After lunch on the lawn, we walked to the Kettles Yard Gallery which had an interesting exhibition by Ai Weiwei. We finished the day at the Botanical Gardens doing sketching and eating ice-cream!

Southwold Fine Art Trip – Friday
During our trip to Southwold, we came across a multitude of intriguing and inspiring areas that had weathered natural surfaces to make sketches of, take photos and take clay impressions from. Lots to think about for our coursework projects. We were lucky with the weather, although very windy we were able to make the most of working outside which we all thoroughly enjoyed. A very pleasant day sitting in the sun (sheltered from the wind) and allowing our creative minds to wonder. Thank you to Mrs Slade & Mr Ollivier for taking us!
