Last week we released the second of our Gather 20 online videos, focusing on the ‘spoken word’. The video showcases a combination of poetry readings, with a number of original compositions from our creative writing group, Writers’ Bloc, including 'The Things That Use To Be' by Kyriel Fynn in L4.
In this blog he shares with us the inspiration behind the poem and shares the piece in full.
At school I am part of the creative writing club Writers' Block. A few weeks ago. In the session, we wrote poems about the things we miss at the moment. I wanted to share the things I miss about school and the routine I used to have. The full poem is below:
I would wake up
And eat my breakfast.
I would clean my teeth
And put on my blue blazer.
I miss the car journey
And listening to Radio 2.
I miss jumping out with my bundle of bags
And struggling through the Erpingham Gate.
We would listen to assembly
In the stunning cathedral.
We would sing hymns
As the organ played.
I miss the walk to Horsefair.
And eating on the go.
I miss the Music School
Where music would echo around.
I miss the after-school clubs
Like Writers’ Bloc.
Like Wind Quintet
And Orchestra.
This routine is long-gone
It feels like a world away.
I miss the hustle and bustle
I miss the school community.
