Alex Lelewel Reflects on Performing in a Making Musicians Concert

Talented musician Alex Lelewel (L6) recently had the opportunity to perform in the Cathedral and at St Nicholas Church in Blakeney as part of the Making Musicians programme. In this blog post, he reflects on the experience:

On Thursday 18th November, I had the opportunity to perform a programme of 4 pieces (Sonata in C, 1st and 2nd Movement, by Handel; Ballade by Périlhou; Syrinx by Debussy; Sonatina, 3rd Movement, by Berkeley) at a recital in the Cathedral as part of the Making Musicians programme. It was a wonderful opportunity to perform to such an appreciative audience and I was very grateful to see so many pupils, staff members and people from the local community there. It was also a great chance to enrich my performance skills, extremely valuable preparation for my upcoming ATCL Diploma. It was a privilege to play in such an awe-inspiring space, offering amazing acoustics and the chance to fully experience the real joy of performing.

Three days later, I was honoured to perform the same programme at a recital in the beautiful St Nicholas Church in Blakeney. I received an incredibly warm welcome from a large audience of music lovers, many of whom took the time to talk to me afterwards to share their enthusiasm and the role music has played in their own lives. We were treated afterwards to a wonderful spread of homemade cakes, teas and coffees. I look forward to returning to attend future Making Musicians concerts there.

Many thanks to Brenda Blewett for her wonderful accompaniment and for all her expert guidance and support in helping me to improve my confidence and my performing skills, and also a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to attend these events.
