Promising Talent at the Lower School Composers Concert

20 June 2024

Glitchy beats, analogue sweeps, high and low filter passes and some 80’s inspired chip tune games music were just some of the offerings from the Lower School Composers, as selected pupils joined their friends and families for a special ‘listening party’ of their latest works. The Composer Concert showcased 17 pupils’ new music, complete with contemporary lighting for added effect!  The audience were treated to Vocaloid blending with Drum N Bass beats, a ‘Dune’ inspired film soundscape, solo flute partita, glitchy 8 bit games music pieces, modern violin and piano duets, solo viola and exciting ‘euroesque’ anthems.

The range and diversity of the projects were fantastic and demonstrated how pupils have embraced curiosity and creativity through composition.

Head of Music, Mr Vine, said ‘this is without a doubt one of my favourite concerts that we put on in the Lower School and it’s only our 2nd one!  I absolutely love how the students have reacted to music technology throughout the school and are challenging themselves with new innovative ideas and sounds.  It was a complete joy to be an audience member and listen to our pupils’ pieces.  A truly inspiring concert – thank you to all our brilliant young composers for an outstanding evening.
