Lower School Pupils awarded with the prestigious 'Eco-Schools' Green Flag!

11 October 2019

Three years ago, Norwich Lower School began their journey to a more sustainable future.

We started by creating a Lower School Eco Council, and together with Eco Club we carried out an environmental survey, and from this, we were able to develop a plan of action for greening up our school. We noticed that we were wasting electricity, water and not very good at recycling much of our waste.

Our Eco Councillors, along with the help of our Eco Club members, have completed many initiatives over the last three years. These include litter picking, composting, recycling old pens, crisp packets and used batteries, upcycling jam jars, making our own biodegradable Christmas paper and many other things!

Eco Council has also created posters and even presented assemblies on subjects such as the importance of saving water and turning engines off while parked in the car park.

In July 2019 the Lower School's hard work all paid off- and we were awarded the top award from the 'Eco-Schools' initiative- the prestigious Green Flag. We are very proud of our achievements and are always looking for more ways to be greener!

As a teacher, it is fantastic to see the children taking an active part in a more sustainable future; as it is their generation that will lead the way on the environmental problems we face.
