Lower School Host Cross Country Event

27 February 2018

On the 5th February the Lower School hosted our eighth inter school cross country fixture. Earlier in the day a mottled wintry sky delivered a roof dusting of snow but the cold winds that brought it stayed away and the temperature struggled up a little above freezing.

With eight schools competing (the Australian flu dashed the hopes of the ninth) the start was going to be busy and the recent deluges had saturated the ground and made for a good contrasting course between the soft field and the hard metalled paths and roads of the Close.  The aim of the competition is to promote cross country running in a friendly yet competitive way and we welcomed teams with a full complement of runners as well as those who may only have one enthusiast or aspirant in a particular age group. Runners were represented across the four years of the school, Lower One to Form 3 with the exciting news that we will be able to offer  races for Years 1 and 2 next year!

The most rewarding aspect of the competition is seeing runners who started off competing in Lower One fulfilling their potential at Form 3. Special mention must therefore be made of the U11 Girls squad who have competed and won each time they have appeared in their time together from U9.

Final positions on the day were U8 Boys 2nd, U8 Girls 2nd, U9 Boys 4th, U9 Girls 6th, U10 Boys 2nd, U10 Girls 4th, U11 Boys 3rd and U11 Girls 1st.
