Local Author Mitch Johnson Visits Norwich Lower School

09 October 2017

On Thursday 28th September, Mitch Johnson came to Norwich Lower School to speak to Form 2 and Form 3 about his debut novel ‘Kick’. Mitch is a local author who also works as a bookseller in Waterstones. His novel, which has been launched amid rave reviews, tells the story of a poverty-bound boy who makes football boots at a sweatshop in Jakarta whilst dreaming of being a Real Madrid footballer.

In the first session of the afternoon, our Form 2 and 3 classes thoroughly enjoyed all the football themed activities that Mitch presented to them, tackling them with much enthusiasm and plenty of team cheering. The pupils also learned about Indonesia and the clothes trade. In the second session, Mitch spoke to them about the challenges of being an author and how drafting and redrafting is a necessary process. He also emphasized that determination, focus and self-belief are necessary if an aspiring author is to weather the setbacks on the road to eventual success. The pupils listened attentively to his words of wisdom after which many took the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of ‘Kick’.
