Indian Topic Day

06 July 2018

To complement our Geography topic on India, on June 19th, Form 2 held an Indian topic day. The day consisted of food tasting, Indian Bollywood dancing and Indian Art.

The children researched, made and brought in their own Indian dish. We had a range of foods to try from Coconut Chikki (a delicious Indian sweet treat), Mango Mouse, Flat Breads, Tikka Masala and many other types of delicious curries.

During the Art session, the children learned about Mehndi hand art and its significance, and they were taught about Rangoli patterns. After this, the children had a go at creating large Rangoli Patterns collaboratively.
However, the clear highlight from the day was the Bollywood style dancing the children learned and performed with Tina from Jaya Dance. After learning about Bollywood dancing and its prominence in India, the children learned a dance routine with a few key moves!  The children were given bindis, colourful outfits and bells to wear around their ankles, which jingled as they danced. Even the teachers joined in!
