On Monday 2nd October, Debby Lukito, an Indonesian author, came to speak to all of Form 1 and Lower 1 about her recent illustrated short story. Debby came along with Sophie Scott Brown from the Writer’s Centre in Norwich.
Debby’s book is written in Indonesian, but the wonderful illustrations make the book very accessible. She translated her book to the group with the help of two of our pupils who adeptly helped with the actions. She told the children that it is always useful to write from experience and that the subject of the story, an owl, is based on the adored pet owl she once had.
Debby told our pupils a little bit about Indonesia and the work that she does with street children and also those suffering from illness and/or disabilities. She also showed a short clip about Indonesia and followed it up with a quiz during which our pupils were given a bookmark for correct answers.
