ON Sacha Burke (11-16) Creates Specialised Make-Up Range for Cancer Patients

08 May 2019

ON Sacha Burke (11-16) and her creative partner Amy Bland have created a new make-up range designed to be kinder on the skin for those who are undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy. ‘Chemo Cosmetics’ is believed to be the first make-up range designed specifically for cancer patients.

Sacha and Amy are both final year students at the University of Lincoln, studying Creative Advertising, and originally came up with the idea for Chemo Cosmetics as part of a university project. However, the girls are now hoping to continue the business after completing their studies.

Cancer patients are often not able to use standard make-up products due to how sensitive their skin becomes during treatment. The creation of the products was influenced by Amy’s experience of her Nan being diagnosed with cancer. Amy says: “I had a personal experience with my Nan a couple of years ago when she had to throw all of her make-up away. After that she just didn’t feel like herself and she lost quite a bit of her confidence because of it”.

Sacha and Amy are also aiming to make their brand gender-neutral, in order to make the products accessible to men undergoing cancer treatment or people with alopecia.

Amy concludes: “At the end of the day this is not about making people feel fancy with make-up. This is about giving people that confidence back and making them feel like themselves again during a really difficult time.”

The products will be predominantly available online, although the duo are also currently in talks to stock their products with retailers.

Congratulations on an amazing product Sacha and Amy, and the best of luck moving forward!
