ON Lasith Ranasinghe (06-14) Publishes Book to Help Medical Students

28 October 2019

ON and current fifth year medical student Lasith Ranasinghe (06-14) has published a book aimed at medical students preparing for their clinical exams.

Lasith has written the book, ‘RevMED: 300 SBAs in Medicine and Surgery’, alongside his fellow fifth year medical student Oliver Clements. Both Lasith and Oliver are studying medicine at Imperial College London.

The book is based around single best answer (SBA) questions, which are a popular examination concept used in medical schools around the world. RevMed uses case-based tutorials to teach students how to interpret clinical cases by presenting key details of the history and examination of a patient and making them choose between five plausible options. The explanations include up-to-date guidelines and a thorough exploration of not only the correct answer, but a breakdown of the incorrect options as well.

Lasith and Oliver used their own experience of revising for clinical exams to produce what they hope can be the ‘ideal’ SBA book. The publication was reviewed by doctors and professors to combine clinical accuracy with a student-friendly delivery, and it will certainly be a valuable resource for any medical student.
