ON Amy Buck (12-20) Wins Category in RSPCA Young Photographer of the Year 2020

17 December 2020

2020 leaver Amy Buck (12-20) has won the 'Picture Perfect Pets' category of the RSPCA Young Photographer of the Year 2020 competition.

The RSPCA Young Photographer Awards aim to encourage an interest in photography and an appreciation and understanding of all the amazing animals around us. The competition is open to anyone aged 18 and under and this year attracted over 11,000 entries.

Amy entered the ‘Picture Perfect Pets’ category, which required entrants to take a picture of their pet. Entitled ‘Half vampire’, Amy’s photography subject was her cat, Sid.

Describing her entry, Amy says:

“I took this photo in my bedroom on my first DSLR camera. Over lockdown I have been trying to improve my skills and I wanted to learn more about using flash to enhance my photography. My cat Sid was the perfect model, as his single fang on his right side can make him look sinister and menacing, which the flash drop-off effect highlighted particularly well here. In reality he is the most friendly cat you’ll ever meet, and the contrast between his personality in real life and what is conveyed in this image makes it all the more interesting for me’

Congratulations Amy!
