Brothers undertake rowing challenge to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK

17 December 2020

Current Norwich School pupil Roo Sergent (M5,Valpy) and his brother, ON Raph Sergent (13-20), have been undertaking a rowing challenge to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

After a family friend was diagnosed with prostate cancer, the Sergent family decided to row the distance from Southwold to Southsea to fundraise, as they are currently unable to visit their friend on the South coast due to Covid restrictions.

The target is a distance of 360km, with the family aiming to row 15km a day between them, either on a rowing machine at home or on the River Yare, restrictions permitting. The initial fundraising target was £500, a target which has been raised three times since the beginning of December. They are currently close to £2000 with just under 100km to go!

Speaking of their choice of charity, the Sergent family say:

“For all charities, 2020 has been a challenging year with many of their fundraising activities curtailed.  Additionally, for those undertaking chemotherapy treatment, strict isolation rules due to Covid has made ordinarily gruelling treatment even more challenging.  The money we raise will help offer personalized support, counselling and therapies to support with the emotional and physical side-effects of prostate cancer and treatments.”
