Drama at Norwich School is broad ranging and exciting. In both curricular and extra-curricular Drama, we aim to offer students as professional an experience in theatre as is possible.

Rehearsals are fun but in-depth and we use local theatres such as The Norwich Playhouse, where recently we have performed our annual musicals (Sweet Charity, West Side Story and Jesus Christ Superstar).

Senior productions at Maddermarket Theatre include The Cherry Orchard and The Importance of Being Earnest and we recently produced Hamlet at Epic Studios, which was a new and exciting challenge and allowed us to work in a minimal but high-tech environment, using live mixing and live-stream camera work by Norwich School's Aspect Films.

We include a Senior Shakespeare production in our yearly repertoire, which usually takes place outdoors in the Cloister of Norwich Cathedral during the Young Norfolk Arts Festival (Much Ado about Nothing, The Winter's Tale, A Comedy of Errors). We also participate every year in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Drama is equally diverse, fun and challenging for our junior pupils. We use The Puppet Theatre and The Garage as well as our own Blake Studio (currently under renovation). Recent productions include The Cyclops, The Witches (with live puppet work), The Wolves of Willoughby Chase and The Nose.

The New Blake Theatre promises to be an exciting, modern space to add to these professional venues.

Our extra-curricular and twice weekly Spiral Drama continues to flourish as we explore all forms of acting and performance out of production. It offers a safe space for new student writing and devised plays, improvisation and Physical Theatre.
