Football: Boodles Cup
26 September 2013
The First XI Football Team were victorious on Wednesday afternoon when they beat IBSTOCK school from London and, for the first time in the history of the School, went through to the next round of this prestigious Cup competition.
For a school like Norwich, up against schools where football is generally their major, this was an incredible achievement.
This all came after what was a poor start for Norwich who found themselves 2-0 down by half time. However the second half saw a Norwich School with new determination and self-belief. They began to play their free flowing passing style which eventually resulted in Oliver Bailey breaking through to pull one goal back.
With Tom Farrow solid and secure in goal, Carter performing superbly on his debut, high impact substitutions were now made giving Norwich even more momentum, with Clayton, Duncan, Easter and Jolly causing problems. Then following the award of a penalty, Captain Oli Ebbage scored confidently to level the game.
Norwich were now in total domination but by the 93rd minute the game looked as if it was going into extra time, until Sam Hunt (one of the youngest players on the pitch) collected the ball from a poor goalkeepers clearance some 40 yards out and, with the last Norwich kick of the game, he coolly swept the ball over the retreating Goalkeeper and into the net.
The Final Score: 3-2 to Norwich, and through to a thoroughly deserved 2nd round.
