County U18 7s
The senior squad were successful in the county U18 7s at Langley School last week. We negotiated the group stages in straightforward fashion by beating Langley B, Dereham Sixth Form and Springwood. The wider pitches of the semis and final suited our game more and we began to play some expansive 7s, which proved too much for an Easton College team that were more intent on contact. The final was against Langley A, who weren't given a look in for the first five minutes, in which time we scored 4 tries. Althoguh they came back at us in the second half, the outcome was never in doubt.
Player of the day: Ed Donell
Cambridge 7s
The 1st VII began slowly at the prestigious Cambridge 7s, with losses to Haileybury and RHS, but thankfully the day gained momentum from then on. There was a convincing win over Northampton Grammar, which set up a must-win game against Wisbech. We played out best 7s rugby of the day and won by 5 tries to 1. This placed us 3rd in the group and set up a Shield semi-final with Welbck College and it was nip and tuck all the way, with the lead changing hands throughout. We took the lead with a minute left on the clock, only to see Welbeck respond with the last play of the match. Nevertheless, it was a most satisfying end to the 7s season.
Please of the season was Ed Donell.
Tom Ramsay collected the County Shield, and Sam Hayes received his 40-cap tie.
