Maths Success

28 June 2012

Our junior mathematicians have been in good form recently. The whole of the fourth form sat the Junior Maths Challenge and earnt a total of 84 certificates, including 42 bronze, 26 silver and 16 golds. The top scorer overall was Edward Young, with 116 points, and top in L4 was Virinchi Velchuru with 115. Both pupils qualified for the Junior Olympiad, the results of which we still await.

On Monday, a team of four U4 pupils took on the rest of Norfolk at the Year 8 Maths Quiz. Having won the trophy for the past 2 years, the team of Benedict Smith, Joe Smith, Albert Sorenson Pound and Georgia Jefford were aiming to make it a hat-trick. Despite a wobbly start, the team made it into the final along with Norwich High School and Acle High School. The final proved to be very tight and went down to a tie break question. The question was ‘What is the sum of the integers from 1 to 12?’ Benedict was quickest on the buzzer (within 5 seconds) and answered correctly to retain the trophy for Norwich School. And the answer is …….. ?
