In a thrilling game, the School 1st XI beat the MCC by 4 wickets. The MCC batted first and sped to a daunting 267 for 6 declared. Yash Kulkarni was our most impressive bowler, taking 3 for 53. In reply, we were soon in trouble at 4 for 2 before Will Bryan and Matthew Plater (52) steadied the ship, but at 171 for 6, needing about 7 runs an over, our prospects looked bleak. However, Will Bryan batted imperiously and James Nolan assisted in a partnership to take us to the brink of an unlikely victory. 21 off the final 3 overs looked well within our grasp, but a fine over from the MCC meant we still needed 18 off the final 2 overs and with all bar two fielders on the boundary, hearts were in mouths round the boundary. We shouldn’t have worried; Will Bryan and James Nolan took 14 from the penultimate over and it was fitting that Will Bryan, who scored a beautifully crafted 128 not out, scored the winning runs with 2 balls to spare.
