German Department

21 June 2012

Lower 6th und Rotkäppchen

Twelve very eager Norwich School pupils in the Lower 6th took a trip to St John’s Infant School on Wednesday 20th June to entertain and teach the pupils in Year One some German!

The Sixth Formers, who are all studying AS level German, performed the Brothers Grimm play “Rotkäppchen” for the 6-year-olds, sang “Kopf, Schulter, Knie und Zehen” with them and also taught them to count to ten in German.  The primary school pupils were very excited and enjoyed their first taste of a new language.  They went away knowing more about German fairy stories and were pleased to be able to speak some German at the end.

This visit has become an annual event for the German Department as part of Norwich School’s Outreach programme and is going from strength to strength.  The Lower 6th Germanists should be very proud of their performances as they showed great understanding for the level of language, enthusiasm and care they needed to show to the younger children and proved to be very popular with them.  Fantastisch!
