Norwich School athletes have been in action at 2 competitions in the past week. On Thursday 12 pupils travelled to Bedford for the East Area Prep Schools Championships, and there were 3 outstanding performances. Sophie Bishop’s jump of 4m21 placed her 3rd in the year 7 long jump; she missed out on a place in the national finals by an agonising 1 cm. Tom Bailon from the Lower School won the year 6 boys long jump with 4m29 and will now go on to represent the East in the National Finals. Joining him will be Dom Smith in the year 8 200m. Dom won his heat impressively, and his time of 26.9 seconds in the final was enough to secure him the second spot in the East team. Tom and Dom will now compete in Birmingham on July 1st.
On Saturday afternoon at UEA, it was the turn of the older pupils in the Norfolk Schools Championships. The blustery conditions were not conducive to setting good times, but we ended up with an impressive 4 winners and 5 runners-up. In the juniors, Jonny Tomes was once again the star, winning both the discus and the javelin. In the Inters, Oli Cooley and James Steel came 2nd in the triple jump and high jump respectively, and Lorna Magrath produced another excellent run to win the 1500m. In the seniors, Tejiri Ighomereho was 2nd in the 100m, and Tom Swinley produced a PB to claim 2nd place in the discus. Martainn Ramsay and Tom Gosling then brought their Norwich School careers to a fitting conclusion by claiming yet another 1-2 in the 1500m.
Unfortunately there is no East Anglian championships for the seniors this year, but the successful juniors and inters will now go on to represent Norfolk next Saturday in Peterborough.
